Local SEO tips to help grow your business
The term “local SEO” has gotten a bad reputation recently. Many people associate it with spammy, low-quality websites with auto-generated content that are developed to get high ranking on Google’s local SERPs. This view of local SEO is absolutely not true.
Local SEO is simply working to get local people to your website and to provide them with a great experience on your website. Local SEO does not include creating content that is clearly aimed at the search engines. It involves developing a web site that is not only useful to your potential customers, but also useful to your local community and city.
There are many things that can be done to improve the search engine rankings of your local website.
1. Setting up and optimizing your site
2. Checking for spammy links and other content: Google provides search engine spam reports in which they list sites that are obviously created to get a high ranking on search engines. For a little or no cost, you can check out the spam report report for your website or blog. If a site has many links pointing to it, they probably got the ranking on their links due to spam. Checking the site history of the site can also give you a good indication of what Google thinks of your content.
3. Make sure your site is set up to receive the updates for Google Search Console, Google Webmaster Central or Moz Local, as well as local SEO tools that allow you to easily track your current location in Google Maps, and get other keyword-based insight and results.
4. Keeping tabs on keyword performance: Simply saying “local SEO” doesn’t mean that you can invest no time at all to improve your results. According to Moz, you can expect a 10% increase in traffic if you pay attention to the phrase “local SEO.” According to one study on the subject, local SEO can increase your conversion rate by as much as 3%.
